This week 3rd and 4th grade learned a lot! One of our snails died one night. Now it is just an empty shell. On Monday, it was Valentine’s Day and we all had a blast having our party! We had cookies and lots of candy! The McMillan’s did a raffle drawing for a box of chocolates, a cookie and a GIANT sucker! Tri got the sucker, Jori got the box of chocolates and Byren got the cookie. Then some of our classmates also did some other things. On Tuesday, in music, we learned a new song called “Walk With Me”. The whole class loved the song and looks forward to singing it on the spring concert. On Wednesday, in P.E. (physical education), we played dodge ball in the morning because it was a flip schedule on a half day. We went to school from 8:10 to 12:30. It was the best day yet! On Thursday, the whole class had to finish their writing that we had been working on for a couple for months now. Almost everybody got finished! The stories were a big turnout and they were great. On Friday morning, we all got laptops and we worked on posters for some book group books. Some of the people that we did were Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Martian Luther King Jr, Cesar Chavez and Johnny Appleseed (John Chapmen). None of us got done, but it was fun!

This week our class learned that snails can pull 10 times their own weight. Did you know that a snail’s mouth is on their foot? Also one of our crayfish lost its shell, that means it is molting (growing bigger.)

Also in math third grade has learned how to find perimeter and the area of things. Fourth grade is learning to divide and multiplying by 4 digit numbers.

In writing everyone is writing a story about getting locked in someplace with friends.

Third and fourth also won the Make a Wish donation contest.  Our class collected $71.26 in change.

Well our class hasn’t posted to our blog in quit some time, however we are planning to get back into the ‘swing of things’.  Check back to see what’s going on in our classroom.  Students will be taking turns posting the events happening in our room.

This year our class has 21 students – 8 4th grade and 13 3rd grade.  So far we have studied about the town of Wilson Creek, the History of Measurement and are currently working on a science unit call Structures of Life.  We have also learned reading strategies such as making connections, asking questions and are currently learning about inference.  In writing we have learned to write personal narratives and are now writing narratives.  Finally, in math much of our year has been spent on multiplication and division!
